Long enough to be a complete answer. Short enough to fit the extraction window. If you cannot answer the question in 60 words, the question is too broad — split the page.
Rule 2 — Place it immediately after the H1
Above any intro paragraph. Above any image. Above any sidebar. The block is the first prose the parser hits.
Rule 3 — Use semantic HTML
A `<section>` wrapper, an `<h2>` containing the question, a `<p>` containing the answer. Do not bury it in a styled div. Parsers reward structure.
Correct shape
section → h2 (the question) → p (40-60 word answer including a concrete differentiator and what the reader does next) → /section. That is the entire surface of the fix. It takes 20 minutes per page.

AI engines still hit the intro first. The intro still buries the answer. The block is now decoration rather than the citation hook.
If you ship Fix #1, the answer block must come before any prose. If your editor or CMS makes that hard, it is the fix worth fighting for. Every paragraph above the block reduces the citation lift.
Picking the right question
A quick-answer block answers a question. Picking the wrong question wastes the fix. The question should be:
- **The literal phrase a buyer would type into ChatGPT.** Not your internal product wording. Not the marketing-team phrasing. The user's wording.
- **Specific enough to have one canonical answer.** "What is the best CRM?" has no canonical answer. "What is the best CRM for solo consultants under $50/month?" has a few.
- **Aligned with the page.** The question and the rest of the page must answer the same thing. AI engines penalize pages where the block and the body disagree.
A simple test: search the question in ChatGPT. If the AI struggles to give a confident answer, that is exactly the question your page should claim.
